Doha International Airport concludes fifth comprehensive emergency

Doha International Airport conducted and successfully concluded the fifth comprehensive emergency exercise, which was organized by the Qatar Airports Management and Operation Company “Matar”, which was called “Oryx Juliet 2022 emergency exercise”.

More than 300 employees from various authorities and departments participated in the emergency exercise, in order to test the airport’s efficiency and readiness to respond to an emergency situation, and to evaluate the processes, procedures, methods of communication and work with partners and government agencies.

The exercise was carried out in cooperation with a number of government agencies, partners and authorities operating at the airport, including Qatar Airways Group, the Airline Operators Committee (British Airways), Airport Customs, the Ministry of Public Health and an ambulance service.  Hamad Medical Corporation, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, National Command Center, Ministry of Transportation, Gulf Helicopters, Qatar Aviation Academy, Qatar Aviation Accident Investigation Unit, Qatar Disaster Victim Identification Team, Qatar Red Crescent Society and the General Civil Aviation Authority.

Commenting on the successful conclusion of the emergency exercise, Engineer Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Chief Operating Officer of Hamad International Airport, said: “Achieving operational excellence and prioritizing the safety, security and health of our employees and passengers is always at the heart of our operations. There is no doubt that the implementation of a comprehensive emergency exercise with the support of our partners and authorities Other operators operating at the airport ensure that we remain ready and prepared to deal with emergencies that may arise and adapt to developments.”

Engineer added  Al Meer: “This is the tenth comprehensive emergency exercise that is being carried out at both Doha International Airport and Hamad International Airport combined, as we start the countdown to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, and take all necessary measures to ensure our operations run smoothly.”

The emergency exercise scenario represented a distress call issued by one of the incoming flights due to thick smoke that was discovered inside the plane . The exercise tested the airport’s efficiency and readiness in response and emergency procedures, safe aircraft evacuation, and firefighting procedures. In addition to providing medical assistance and communicating with relatives of travelers and crew members.

The emergency exercise comes in response to the requirements set by the General Authority of Civil Aviation and the International Civil Aviation Organization. The exercise highlights our commitment to ensuring that airport management systems and emergency preparedness meet the requirements of the applicable licensing standards of the General Authority of Civil Aviation.
