Recently, a new experiment has been unveiled by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation where it has declared that as part its measures to draw greater number of passengers and improve revenue flow. For its popular budget tour packages, its recent efforts comprises taking in private tourist buses. At first for a month, on a trial basis, around 49-seater non-AC buses will be considered for the purpose. A KSRTC official said that if this experiment becomes fruitful, more private vehicles will be hired. The rent for hiring private buses is Rs. 13 per km and that’s fixed for up to a distance of 500 kms, around Rs 12.85 from 501-650 kms and Rs 12.60 from 651-800 km. Besides, the driver will be paid an allowance of Rs 4 per km.
At present, from major depots, the state bus corporation carries out budget tour packages with its fast and super-fast class buses. In the meantime, it’s emphasized that for tour packages, private buses are being hired for spending extra money even though more than 500 KSRTC buses are parked at different bus depots without any function.
