For tourism sector in Vietnam, dearth of human resources has become a major issue, the deputy director of the city Department of Tourism, Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, recently mentioned about the same.
It’s been an issue that’s being dealt in HCM City for quite some time now and was made worse by the pandemic situation; Bui Thi exactly informed so in a workshop, organized on May 13th.
In the last two years, almost 80 per cent of workers were made redundant or they were shifted to some other industries, creating a major deficit of workers, she said.
The HCM City is known to be a leader when it comes to training people in tourism. It has more than 20 colleges, 24 universities, and 19 vocational schools so far.
Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu said that each year, roughly, 12,000 people graduates, meeting 60 per cent of demand. Around 454 travel operators and 342 hotels remained in business in HCM city, as of mid-April, 2022. The data is 1,341 fewer than in 2020.
To handle this dearth of workers problem, tourism authorities are initiating campaigns and measures.
Nguyen Quy Phuong, chief of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism’s travel department, explained that COVID had impacted finances, and tourism was one of the most horribly hit sectors in the world.
In the tourism sector, many workers shifted their work interest elsewhere. This in return worsened the shortage problem even more.
He said, as anticipated, travel demand had to get rebounded rapidly as localities were trying hard to encourage domestic travel.
To international visitors, Vietnam has completely reopened since mid-March 2022. In the first month of its reopening, almost 41,000 visitors came to Vietnam.
