Even though theadjoining states had brought in restrictions regarding the movement of people from and to Kerala during the surge of the pandemic, as per recent date, there has been an increase in the visit of domestic tourists to Kerala in recent times. Karnataka,Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra contributethe greatestchunk of domestic tourists who visit Kerala.
Out of the 37.94 lakh visitorsto traveled to the destinations in Kerala in the first quarter of this year, 29.46 lakh tourists or 77.6% of the entire domestic arrivals, came from Kerala itself. Tamil Nadu took the spot for the highest number of visitors from other states registering 2.73 lakh tourists from there going to Kerala. This number was 1.66 lakh tourists in the equivalent period of last year.
Karnatakafollowed Tamil Nadu with 1.85 lakh tourists and Maharashtra registered 1.09 lakh. Andhra Pradesh listed 0.5 lakh tourists.
Among the state’s most popular destinations, the top names were Kochi-Athirappilly, Kochi-Alappuzha,Kochi-Munnar and Kochi-SreePadmanabhaswamy Temple in Kovalam.
Manyvisitors from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu wanted to visit themountainous destination of Wayanadsince it is close to Bengaluru and Mysuru. In spite of the high-octane campaign for boosting other destinations, the Kochi-Idukki-Alappuzha-Thiruvananthapuram routestands as thechief attraction, opined the state tourism officials. Another important factor is that there is a lot of enthusiasm among Keralitesfor visiting destinations inside Kerala after the pandemic.
