Most of the UK is set to enjoy temperatures hotter than Madrid today (Saturday April 23), says the Met Office.

The national weather forecaster is predicting temperatures as high as 18c on the south coast England. And highs of 16c are expected in parts of South Wales, Belfast and Scotland.

Meanwhile, the capital city of sunny Spain is forecast to see highs of 12c, according to Met Office – with a news channel predicting a slightly warmer high of 14c.

The average daily maximum temperature in Madrid in April is 19c. The reports that parts of North Wales saw temperatures hit 19c on Friday.

However, while the UK may be warmer than Madrid, we may see some showers – and should only expect “sunny spells”.

The Met Office’s UK forecast summary for Saturday reads: “Cloudy start for much of England and Wales. Some sunny spells developing, but also some showers, mainly Wales and southern England. Scotland and Northern Ireland mainly fine and dry. Breezy.

The Met Office says the outlook for Sunday to Tuesday is “sunny spells for most”. Its weather summary reads that dry for many, but some showers in the southwest early Sunday and some eastern parts Sunday afternoon and Monday. Breezy at first, less breezy by Tuesday.

UK weather forecast for Saturday is for “light cloud and a moderate breeze” with highs of 16c.

For Sunday, a news channel forecasts a cloudy start to the day in England and Wales with some patchy rain. However, it predicts things will turning drier and brighter in the afternoon.
