A succession of holidays due to festivals preceded by the weekend has created a tourist rush to Mysuru for the second time in a fortnight providing much needed relief to the tourism sector.
The weekend, along with State Government holidays on Monday and Tuesday due to Ramzan and BasavaJayanti has given holiday-makers a 4-day respite and these are evident in the influx of visitors to the city.
From April 30 to May 2, all hotels in the heart of Mysuru had 100% occupancy rate while facilities beyond the Outer Ring Road are reporting 80% occupancy rates and continuing enquiries.
A similar situation happened between April 13 and 16, when almost all hotels in Mysuru and surrounding regions reported100% occupancy rate, said C. NarayanaGowda, the president of Hotel Owners ‘Association.
Almost two lakh tourists visited the Mysuru Palace in April 2022 which foretellsgood times for the travel and tourism sector. Even though the numbers used to be around 3 lakh and 3.5 lakh for April in the pre-pandemic times, last month’s numbers are indeed inspiring, since tourism had completely shrunkenin the wakeof the pandemic with closed hotels and thousands of jobs lost. Hence, the current optimismin the tourism sector is definitely good forMysuru’s economy.
