Top officials of the Bangladesh government said during a workshop that the country’s government couldn’t provide appropriate policy support for tapping the immense prospect of the country’s tourism sector.

The officials said that there are many limitations and bureaucratic bottlenecks in the tourism sector, as a result of which Bangladesh is not becoming successful in tourismand not getting due recognition in tourism prospects like other countries.

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism held the workshop titled, “Role of tourism in the country’s blue economy” at the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation at city’s Agargaon on May 29this year.

Rear Admiral (retd) KhurshedAlam, the secretary to the maritime affairs unit of foreign ministrysaid that the Bangladesh government is unable to provide policy support for taking the country’s tourism sector ahead, in the occasion of presenting his keynote paper.

Alam gave examples of bureaucratic problems in the tourism sector. 17 permissions from various ministries and departments of the Bangladesh government were required for getting approval for a cruise ship for traveling to Bangladesh from Sri Lanka in the year 2017.

KhurshedAlammentioned that not a single cruise ship came to visit Bangladesh since 2017, following that incident.

MahbubHossain, the senior secretary with the power, energy and mineral resources ministry posed a question in his speech, and askedif Bangladesh is a tourism-friendly nation.
