STREET, which stands for Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic Tourism, is a project established by Kerala Tourism for giving Kerala Tourism a makeover, and launching various new experiences under experiential tourism. There are 10 STREET projects coordinated, and Maravanthuruthu Water Street is the first of the 10, which would be taken forward by Kerala Tourism via its Responsible Tourism Mission Kerala programme. The Local Self Governments would play a significant role in this project.
The idea behind these STREET projects is to add new and fascinating features to the existing list of experiences that Kerala Tourism has to offer. The strategy is to drive experiential tourism.
Kerala Tourism aims to develop Maravanthuruthu as a sustainable and experiential tourism destination, and inauguratingMaravanthuruthu Water Street, which is a water street festival.
For making this water STREET experience possible, the Responsible Tourism Mission Kerala, together with the local panchayats, cleaned and invigorated a total of 18 canal networks and three rivers. Kayaking and night safari expeditions on the canals are part of this plan.
These STREET projects would help in practicing responsible tourism.
