Thailand is thinking to end obligatory pre-travel registration for foreign tourists, taking away the remaining of the restrictions of the pandemic-era, with the tourism-dependentcountrybetting on global visitors to influence its economic retrieval.

Thailand’sprincipal Covid-19 task force is probably to deliberate on a proposal for scrapping the alleged Thailand Pass requirement at a meeting on the 17th of this month, said PhiphatRatchakitprakarn, the Tourism Minister of Thailand. This move would come into effect next month with thesupport of the Health Ministry, said the minister.

Phiphat saidthat their country has been injured badly by the pandemic for a long time. And now it is time to make a complete attempt for restoring their economic growth with the help of tourism. The elimination of Thailand Pass will make it much moreexpedient for tourists to visit Thailand.

Visitors from other countriescurrently need to upload information like proof of vaccinations and medical insurance of at least $10,000 before leaving to obtain the Thailand Pass, which letsCovid-negative visitors a non-requirement of quarantine after their arrival and free movement in the country.

Thailand travel and leisure industry players have urged for termination of the registration program. They opined that it discouragedpotential holidaymakers. Before the pandemic, the tourism related sector on the whole accounted for around a fifth of economy and jobsfor Thailand, with almost 40 million overseas visitors in 2019, as per the central bank.
