The tourism department after experiencing a gap of almost four years is all geared up to organize the summer festival in Valparai to draw maximum tourists.

After 2017, the summer festival in Valparai wasn’t arranged because of tremendous rainfall, model code of conduct followed by the Covid-19 situation. The district tourist officer, D. Umasankar said that the tourism department is all set to carry out the festival at the end of May or may be in the first week of June. To the state government, he said that they have already sent a proposal and waiting for the order to proceed.

As different to the summer festival organized in Ooty, Valparai fest will be a three-day occasion where people can watch many cultural programmes along with amazing flower shows, among many others. Also, the government departments at the venue will arrange stalls. In Valparai, a small town in TN, the government has plans to arrange the festival at a higher secondary school.

This Tamil Nadu hilly region has been seeing a major rise in tourist numbers after lockdown restrictions were eased. All hotels, resorts and homestays are experiencing an excellent occupancy rate.

After the schools were declared summer holidays, rush of tourists has been increasing, said C .M Ali, coordinator of Valparai Tourism Development Council. At this moment, Valparai is experiencing mild to moderate rainfall. However, tourists from Karnataka, Chennai and other places are pouring into the region. The summer festival will undoubtedly draw tourists to this small TN town.

For the summer festival, the state government of Tamil Nadu must declare a date just like Ooty, to pull maximum tourists to Valparai, said Shaji George, the secretary of Valparai Taluk Merchants Association.
