The American members of UNWTO recently reviewed the present state of the sector. At the recently arranged 67th meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for America, they have designed a plan for its sustainable future. It was hosted in Punta del Este, Uruguay, for two days. Many tourism ministers and high-level representatives, comprising private sector leaders and delegates from international organizations assessed the leadership of UNWTO of the sector in the last year.

Zurab Pololikashvili, UNWTO Secretary-General, handed over a report on the primary trends of international tourism and the chief priorities of the organization for the region, like added efforts related to education and investments.

The President of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, inaugurated the Regional Commission along with the Minister of Tourism and Tabaré Viera, the event host and by Francisco Bustillo, the Minister of Foreign Relations. Just two weeks after Uruguay hosted a global UNESCO conference, the meeting was arranged, reflecting the commitment of the country to multilateral cooperation for the mission and values of the UN. Tourism for development was the key among them.
President Lacalle greeted the UNWTO leadership. He stated that tourism is still a crucial part of the state economic policy of Uruguay. The Commission meeting highlighted the significance of every individual who are working for the revival of the sector.

Zurab Pololikashvili said that the sector has proved its potential to inspire change and growth.
